Stephen saw Jesus at the right hand (place of authority) of God the Father. As he was dying by stoning, he looked up into heaven and saw Jesus.īut he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, 'Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!' ( Acts 7:55, 56). Stephen was the first believer put to death for his faith in Christ. Scripture provides further testimony that Jesus ascended to His rightful place next to the Father. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven' ( Acts 1:9-11). Now when he had spoken these things, while they watched, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. The Bible testifies that Jesus ascended into heaven in full view of His disciples. Jesus Ascended In Full View Of His Disciples The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen ( Acts 1:1, 2). In the first chapter of the Book of Acts Luke records the following. Luke speaks of Jesus parting from them in a manner that assumes they were already familiar with the ascension account. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Now it came to pass, while he blessed them, that he was parted from them and carried up into heaven. The only New Testament writer to record the ascension was Luke. The Bible teaches that forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven both visibly and bodily. One of the most significant events in the life of Christ was His ascension into heaven.
